  • A group of Chinese middle aged friends eat their dinner in the street, food from the nearby food stall in Times Square. 7 million people live on 1,104km square, making it Hong Kong the most vertical city in the world.

  • Kids are having a late breakfast after having finished their morning chores. The Afar diet is mainly milk with some rice or bread. The rice and flour is import to the region so its not every day they can eat that.  Action for Integrated Sustainable Development Association (AISDA) work in the AFAR region of Eastern Ethiopia, based in Delafagi. The Afars practise an old tradition of Female Genital Mutilation where the baby girls has her clitoris and labia cut away and her vagina sewn up. The day before her wedding day the girl is un-stiched ready for marriage. Its a brutal and barbaric tradition which AISDA is challenging with great effect, now more than a hundred girls in Dowe district have been saved from the knife and AISDA is now rolling out the scheme in Delafagi. Delafagi is where the oldest ever human remains have been found, the found is thought to be 4.5 mill years old.

  • In Ein El-Hilweh refugee camp, home to 75.000 Palestinians. Girls are playing a eat-the-apple game with a lot of energy and laughter. It is summer break in the UNWRA school and Naba'a runs Play and Learn sessions in the empty school for vulnerable children. They aim is to give them a safe space to express themselves with out fear of repression. Developmental Action Without Borders(Naba'a) work in Palestinian refugee camps across Lebanon to help children in the camps.  The camps are densely over-crowded and many of the children are 4th generation refugees living in Lebanon with no citizenship or rights and under immense pressure. Naba'a is a mix of Palestinians and Lebanese and aim to give children a sense of security and freedom to express their needs and rights.Naba'a operates in communities governed by a multitude of political parties and religious groups and Naba'a keeps a strict independed line from any affiliation with any groups.

  • Women queue to receive food parcels in connection with a pedicure workshop set up in the slums along side a film screening on human trafficking. There is very little work in the slums and many women do not have any vocational training so being able to set up a small shop in the streets providing pedicure is a great help to many women.  Because of poverty and lack of income children and young women are easy prey to human traffickers and the foundation aim to teach the dangers of trafficking by showing films in a mobile cinema. Laura Vicuña is a non-profit charity working in Manila and in Bacolod in the state Negros Occidental in the Philippines.

Alola advocate breast feeding til at least two years old and teach women about nutritious supplements such as boiled and mashed rice w vegetabels and eggs.  Fundasaun Alola is a not for profit non government organization operating in Timor Leste to improve the lives of women and children. Founded in 2001 by the then First Lady, Ms Kirsty Sword Gusmao, the organization seeks to nurture women leaders and advocate for the rights of women.

  • 61/2 months Marcolina is fed mashed rice with bananas by her mother Maria as part of  a Mother Support Group session where breast feeding mothers with 4 months plus babies learn about food supplements. Maria has bee doing .exclusive breast feeding but has started complimentary feeding. She cooks rice and veggies and beans. .She is a member of mother's support group where they share knowledge. Every month she visits house holds of pregnant women to give advice. Her husband is a farmer, he grows veggies and sell some and feed the family as well. Maria has been trained by Alola, she understands the importance of nutritious food but its her first attendants at this workshop. The London Stock Exchange was attempted occypied in solidarity with Occupy Wall in Street in New York and in protest againts the economic climate, blamed by many on the banks. Police managed to keep people away fro the Patornoster Sqaure and the Stcok Exchange and thousands of protestors stayid in St. Paul's Square, outside St Paul's Cathedral. Many camped getting ready to spend the night in the square.

  • Disability Action Network (DAN) is based in Hargeisa in Somaliland and a charity working with disabled children and young people helping them to access health care and provide them with therapeutic rehabilitation. DAN supply and fit orthopaedic appliances and physiotherapy when needed. Somaliland is a very poor country and to many not living in the capital Hargeisa health care is very difficult to come by..DAN received the STARS Foundation Health Award in 2008 for outstanding work. A boy suffering from cerebral palsy is sitting with his mother at the DAN centre waiting to recieve physio. The boy is sitting in a chair and table contraption which helps him to sit up unaided.

  • The second day of the Strike WEF march on Davos, 20th of January 2020, Switzerland. People eat and relax after the long walk in Klosters Arena. The march started in Schiers and walked the 24 kilomers to Klosters.  The aim is to finish in Davos with a public meeting in the town on the day the WEF begins. The march is a three day protest against the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos. The activists want climate justice and think that The WEF is for the world's richest and political elite only.

The rice and flour is import to the region so its not every day they can eat that. The Hong Kong civil society is highly regulated but has at the same time one of the most lassiez-faire economies with low taxation and free trade. Civil unrest and political dissent is unusual but in 2014 the Umbrella Movenment took to the streets of Hong Kong demanding democracy and universal suffrage. 93 % are ethnic Chinese, mostly Cantonese speaking.
