“I am here because I am a grandmother of two small children and I am horrified at the dangerous dirty nasty horrible effects that this industry can have on our environment and health. In spite of Cuadrilla say they want to work with the community and be transparent we dont know anything. Apparently they are flow testing, but we dont know why they have taken all that equipment off.”
It is Green Monday and first week of the second anniversary of Cuadrilla's fracking exploration in Preston New Road. For two years activists have been keeping an eye on the fracking company Cuadrilla from the roadside of the fracking site in Preston New Road. The company has not actively fracked since November and is currently seemingly busy emptiyng the site for heavy equipment. Prostesters and climate protectors are still by the gates trying to work out Cuadrilla's intensions.

“Renewables are the future but it needs a government that sees this in a positive way and does everything it can to develop renewables and turn its back on fossil fuels. We have seen lots of equipment going inand out, Cuadrilla is not going to say, “That's it”, because it has got share holders but AJ Lucas' shares are down to about 20p so I dont know if thats an indicator or not of a future of an industry like this.”
“ Its not over yet and although the site is particular quiet, they took the rig away and it was good to see it go and it was great to have a frack-free Christmas. We are all a bit perplexed to why the took the rig and lots of equipment away but we are very excited that the Mayor of Manchester Andrew Burrman recently announced their opposition to fracking, it was very good news to hear that in the beginning of the year. Cuadrilla are still here, they are still are threat and we still take the fact that they are here very seriously and we are watching 24-7. We remain cautiously optimistic, which has been my catch phrase over Christmas.”
“We have just completed our second anniversary of Cuadrilla being here in Preston New Road. As far as we can tell they haven't done any fracking since end of November. We are waiting for an announcement of what is going on, a lot of equipment has come off the site. We think they are going to embark upon extended flow testing but we dont know for sure. That in itself really means the company who say they want to build a good relationship with the community is doing nothing of the sort, they are being very tight lipped, not serving the community well and they are only interested, as far as I can see, in keeping their investors and share holders sweet. We think the tide is turning against fracking. At the weekend two national news papers had front page headlines saying that fracking is a dead duck. We fought for two years and we will carry on as long as we need to to put this industry to bed. Fracking should not be the future, the future should be clean and green.”
“It's Jan 7th, we are into the second year of the company developing the fracking site and exploring the wells and we are into the seventh or eighth year of our campaign against Cuadrilla in our area. We already know that our protest and other factors have delayed them. My suspicious is that they have had to abandon a well or some thing has gone not quite right., they were meant to have drilled and fracked two wells at this stage. I think if they had anything of significance to say they would be shouting about it and they have been dead quiet. We dont really know what is happening at the minute because lots of heavy equipment has left the site. There has been no communication for weeks and weeks and weeks, its all speculation but lots of water tankers have been removing water, surface water of fracking water, but nothing is really clear.”
“ I have been coming for two years. I am slightly hopeful but it is not to be easy because they got the government on their side. It sounds to me that the government wants to push the blame onto the Environment Agency and the regulators, to make them change the traffic system which worries me a bit.”
“I live roughly 5 miles away and I am here because my house shook in 2011 and I am against fracking in principal full stop. Its possible they are taking fracking equipment out to bring in the drilling rig. Its all just theories at the moment. I believe the license to drill four wells is three years so they still got two wells to do.”
