  • Wilson's wedding day...It is Wilson's wedding party and his village is full of visitors. Wilson is also a member of the S.A.F.E theatre group. Here weddng guests are enjoying a performance by S.A.F.E about Female Genital circumcision. S.A.F.E.  is a charity which educates children and young people about life skills and how to protect themselves from HIV and other STIs through performance. They also do performances about Female Genital Mutilation, an old tradition amongst the Maasais in Loita, a brutal and controversial custom which S.A.F.E is trying to eradicate. There is no electricity other than a generator which runs the two lights used for the show...It is mainly Maasais who live in the Loita Hills up above the Serengeti plains. They live in small villages and communities called bomas and live mainly of raising and selling live stock such as cattle and goats. Its a very remote region in Kenya, hard to get to without a four wheel drive with very little infrastructure and up till 2010 no mobile phone network. The Maasais are well known though out Kenya and the world for their colorful clothing and their way of keeping their old traditions alive.

  • Muncia is putting his baby daughter back in her cot in the hospital. She is 6 days old and under observation because two previous babies by his wife Laura died as new born. Laura and Muncia believe they died due to bad breast milk but the hospital does not agree and doctors are trying to work out why.   • Health worker Santina pump out milk from Laura, not to feed her new born baby but to relieve the pressure. Laura and her husband Muncia had a baby 6 days earlier but are unwilling to breast feed the baby because they have lost two babies in the past and they blame the breast milk. Doctors at the hospital finally established that there is nothing wrong her milk but they still opted for powder milk, a very difficult decision and not recommended by Alola or the hospital.   • 61/2 months Marcolina is fed mashed rice with bananas by her mother Maria as part of  a Mother Support Group session where breast feeding mothers with 4 months plus babies learn about food supplements. Maria has bee doing .exclusive breast feeding but has started complimentary feeding. She cooks rice and veggies and beans. .She is a member of mother's support group where they share knowledge. Every month she visits house holds of pregnant women to give advice. Her husband is a farmer, he grows veggies and sell some and feed the family as well. Maria has been trained by Alola, she understands the importance of nutritious food but its her first attendants at this workshop. She has got 4 other children, oldest is 12.  .Infant mortality rates are very high in Timor-Leste and one of the reasons for that is poor nutrition.   • Disability Action Network (DAN) is based in Hargeisa in Somaliland and a charity working with disabled children and young people helping them to access health care and provide them with therapeutic rehabilitation. DAN supply and fit orthopaedic appliances and physiotherapy when needed. Somaliland is a very poor country and to many not living in the capital Hargeisa health care is very difficult to come by..DAN received the STARS Foundation Health Award in 2008 for outstanding work. Here a little boy suffering from  cerebral palsy, is receiving physiotherapy, massage to his hands and arms.

  • Students marching in London against the proposed scapping of Education Maintenance Allowance(EMA) which costs the government £500b / year. The maximum EMA a stucent can get is £30.00/week and to many students this is essential monies to make it through their studies. Several hundreds of students marched noisily but peacefully from Picadilly Circus to Parliament Square by Westminster in London. The Government won the vote and on the night of Jan 19th the EMA was scrapped..A future student and protester joining in on the student demonstration in Parliament Square, mobbed by media.

Flaviana gave birth to Maria the day before but because Maria had fever she was kept in the ante-natal ward while Flaviana was recovering from cesarian. They also do performances about Female Genital Mutilation, an old tradition amongst the Maasais in Loita and a very brutal and controversial custom which S.A.F.E is trying to eradicate. There is no electricity other than a generator which runs two lights used for the show.

  • Disability Action Network (DAN) is based in Hargeisa in Somaliland and a charity working with disabled children and young people helping them to access health care and provide them with therapeutic rehabilitation. DAN supply and fit orthopaedic appliances and physiotherapy when needed. Somaliland is a very poor country and to many not living in the capital Hargeisa health care is very difficult to come by..DAN received the STARS Foundation Health Award in 2008 for outstanding work. A boy suffering from cerebral palsy is sitting with his mother at the DAN centre waiting to recieve physio. The boy is sitting in a chair and table contraption which helps him to sit up unaided.
