  • Alaa arrived in Beirut from Damascus 25.12.12. He used to run a very well established dance company, SIMA. in Syria with 40 dancers performing all over the country and at international festivals. When he first arrived to Lebanon he had nothing but has since managed to gather some of the old Sima dancers and has set up a dance school for both Syrian and Lebanese. He runs SIma and the classes out of Babel Theatre in Hamra, Beirut and Sima is in the run to win Arabs Have Talent, a tv talent show.

  • Dima, former dancer from Damascus, Syria, works in the bar and restaurant Mezzian in Hamra district of Beirut. She came to Beirut in January 2012 fleeing threats to kill and rape her from the Ghosts - Assad regime fanatics. Her sister was politically active and had to flee the country and eventually so did Dima. Working in the Mezzian as their head chef is how she makes a living but she really wants to get back into dancing again. She dreams about joining her sister in Norway and to continue her dance career there, away from the neighbouring war in Syria. Before taking up dancing she was twice Syrian national champion in Thai-boxing.

  • Ali works on a car helped by his assistant in the garage owned by the Mayor of Mdoukha. Ali Abed el Razzak Zamzam, 29, is from Zamalka in Syria. He came to Mdoukha with his fiancé after life in the town got too dangerous because of fighting, most of the time they had to stay in a shelter with no food,water or electricity because of heavy Government shelling and tanks destroyed his grandparents house. <br />
Ali now works as a mechanic in a garage owned by the local Mayor and he lives in an unfinished building owned by the Mayor with his fiancé and her family. The Mayor takes half of what Ali makes and has lend him money to buy house hold equipment. He has been in Lebanon for a year and misses his family who are all back in Syria, - all wants is the war to stop so he can go back, marry his fiancé and have children.

  • Douaa teaches the kids English after they have returned from work. The class room also funtions as her bed room which she share with the rest of her family.<br />
Douaa is from Sayeda Zeinab City in Syria. She was a geology student but had to leave Zeinab City with her family when the war came to their town. She lives with her father and siblings in a disused school in the Bekaa Valley. Douaa was doing nothing till she decided to get all the children living in the school together and began teaching them Englsih and Maths. All the fighters in Syria are students, doctors, engineers etc so it will be up to the young refugees to rebuild Syria when they return and all the able bodied men have died in the war according to Douaa.
