  • Home from Home is an organisation which provides homes for children. The children are all vulnerable, some orphans or from broken homes,some living with HIV/AIDS and from the local community.  The homes only have up to 6 children, there will be one woman running the house as a mother would, 24 hours providing the children with a sense of family. Here counsellor Charlotte McLea visits one of the homes and chat to the children. Charlotte McLea does weekly weekly visits to all families to make sure every thing is going well and many of the children bond with her closely.

  • Halima,Zahara,Mairam and Mumina, young unmarried girls who work for AISDA to build stone walls on the hillside above Delafagi. The stone wall project is to prevent precious top soil to be washed away when the rain does come and AISDA employ locals to build walls running across the hill side.  Action for Integrated Sustainable Development Association (AISDA) work in the AFAR region of Eastern Ethiopia, based in Delafagi. The Afars practise an old tradition of Female Genital Mutilation where the baby girls has her clitoris and labia cut away and her vagina sewn up. The day before her wedding day the girl is un-stiched ready for marriage. Its a brutal and barbaric tradition which AISDA is challenging with great effect, now more than a hundred girls in Dowe district have been saved from the knife and AISDA is now rolling out the scheme in Delafagi. Delafagi is where the oldest ever human remains have been found, the found is thought to be 4.5 mill years old.

  • Men are finishing off a deal, buying and selling camels in the Delafagi market. The market is on every Tuesday and people travel from far to sell their goods, to stock up and to socialise.  A strong camel costs 8,000.00 birr( $450.00) and is only bought or sold with the agreement of the entire clan. An AK47 machine gun costs 20,000.00  ($1,100.00) and is shared between the young men of the clan.
