Fracking is a highly contested way of extracting gas, it is risky to extract and damaging to the environment and is banned in parts of Europe . Lancashire has in the past experienced earth quakes blamed on fracking.

  • Nick Sheldrick. Around 4 am. 13 anti-fracking activists, one hour into a joint lock-on outside Quadrilla's drill site in New Preston Road, Lancashire. The campaign against the drilling for shale gas has been going for years and since January 2017 many have taken to block the gates to deny Quadrilla being able to drill. Fracking was rejected by Lancashire County council in 2015 but were overruled by central Conservative government and locals are fighting to stop the drilling and reverse the decision.

  • Councillor Julie Brickles. Around 4 am. 13 anti-fracking activists, one hour into a joint lock-on outside Quadrilla's drill site in New Preston Road, Lancashire. The campaign against the drilling for shale gas has been going for years and since January 2017 many have taken to block the gates to deny Quadrilla being able to drill. Fracking was rejected by Lancashire County council in 2015 but were overruled by central Conservative government and locals are fighting to stop the drilling and reverse the decision.

  • Day two of the Rolling Resistance, Preston New Road, Lancashire. Michelle Martin was part of a 13 strong lock-on the day. Everyone else were cut free by specialist the day before but because the police ran out of time Michelle managed to stay on.  By the time of being photographed Michelle has been in this spot locked on for 27.5 hours.
