First Day Of Julian Assange Last Appeal At The Royal Courts Of Justice
Kristinn Hrafnsson speaks in defence of Julian Assange outside the Royal Court of Justice on the first day of two of Julian Assange’s last chance of appeal on the 20th February 2024, London, United Kingdom. Kristinn Hrafnsson (born 25 June 1962) is an Icelandic investigative journalist who has been the editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks since 2018. The two-day hearing in the high court in London will consider whether Australian-born Assange, who has been held in Belmarsh prison for almost five years, can be granted leave to appeal against an extradition decision made in 2022 by the then home secretary, Priti Patel. The founder of WikiLeaks is facing 175 years in prison if extradited to the USA for publishing and exposing leaked information on the USA and their allies at the time of the Iraq war. Julian Assange first spent 7 years in the Ecuadorian embassy in London before being arrested and incarcerated in top security Belmarsh Prison.
