Sustainable smallholder rubber farming in Surathani, Thailand
Raw rubber runs into a coconut bowl. Wanida Heedyim, a smallholder rubber farmer, is part of a project to empower rubber farmers run by the local ngo AGRIAC. AGRIAC has developed an app that creates full transparency in the supply chain and gives farmers access to valuable market information which makes it possible for the farmers to cut put expensive middlemen. To join the programme, new members are required to adapt FSC sustainability standards. With the FSC label, the farmers are able to charge a premium for their product, as the demand for sustainable rubber is increasing day by day.
