First Day Of Julian Assange Last Appeal At The Royal Courts Of Justice
An ad-van with a Free Assange message drives by as crowds of supporters and media turned up outside the Royal Court of Justice for the first day of two of Julian Assange’s last chance of appeal on the 20th February 2024, London, United Kingdom. The two-day hearing in the high court in London will consider whether Australian-born Assange, who has been held in Belmarsh prison for almost five years, can be granted leave to appeal against an extradition decision made in 2022 by the then home secretary, Priti Patel. The founder of WikiLeaks is facing 175 years in prison if extradited to the USA for publishing and exposing leaked information on the USA and their allies at the time of the Iraq war. Julian Assange first spent 7 years in the Ecuadorian embassy in London before being arrested and incarcerated in top security Belmarsh Prison.
