Day of protest in Pont Valley

Protect Pont Valley 2018. Locals have fought the open cast coal mine for thirty years and three times the local council rejected planning permissions but central government has overuled that decission. Banks Group bought the license and rights to extract coal and declared in early 2018 they were to commence extracting coal in accordance with the liicence by June 4th 2018. Locals have teamed up with climate campaigners and together they try to pevent the mining from going ahead. A rare species of crested newt live on the land planned for mining and protectors are trying to stop the mine to save the newt, the valley and their communities from pollution. Commercial coal exploitation and burning of fossil fuels is hugely contributing to climate change and campaigners want to keep the coal in the hole.
