Unilever owns Dove and Dove is responsible for massive amounts of plastic waste, selling beauty products in single use non-recyclable sachets. Plastic use and waste is a huge global problem and Unilever/Dove are not doing their bit to end plastic waste so Greenpeace has subverted their logo Real Beauty to Real Harm. Activists are blockading the entrances to Unilever House, locking themselves onto barricades made of giant Dove products and a subverted ‘Dead Dove’ version of their logo. Climbers secured a huge 13 x 8 metre canvas to the front of the building. The artwork displays a powerful advertising subversion featuring a young girl peeling back Dove’s iconic ‘Real Beauty’ branding to reveal real examples of the toxic plastic waste churned out by the brand. 20 imagesThe Really Annoying Demo was held on the night of the third vote on the ‘Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill’ in the House of Lords. Home Secretary Priti Patel and the UK Government had proposed an extensive ‘Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill’ which would bring in new laws to curb peaceful protests and civil disobedience. The proposed new laws would bring in new powers for the police to arrest people for expressing dissent and new sentencing powers which could send peaceful protesters to prison for years. The House of Lords rejected many of the added amendments and most extreme parts of the proposed law and the bill was voted down a third time January 17 after huge debate and mass protesting across Britain. The bill was seeking to ban any annoying noise and the speakers and protesters made as much noise as possible, an act that could bring on a fine or prison sentence in the future if the bill had made it through.
