Days of discontent in Copenhagen.
The Youth House in 69 Jagtvej was evicted the 1 March 2007.
The house had been donated by the the city council to the youth of Copenhagen in 1982 and
had since been run by its users; the youth. In 2000 the council sold the property to a Christian sect
who subsequently ordered the youth out of their house. The sect "Faderhuset" and its leader Ruth Evensen
consider the house and site infested by the devil and the demolition of the house started Monday the 5 March and finished 2 days later under heavy police guard.
The past week has seen more demonstrations, happenings and riots in protest against the eviction and demolition than denmark has seen for many years.
650 people had been arrested in these first 5 days, 25 cars had been burned and thousands of people had marched the streets in peacefull protest.
These images are from 5 days of discontent in Copenhagen, showing a fraction of the turmoil the city and its people went through.
Ritt Bjerregaard, Mayor of Copenhagen has refused to comment or engage in any
dialog with any representatives of the youth movement.
