Climate Camp by the coal power plant Kingsnorth 2008
Camp for Climate Action is a movement made up of a lose network of people and environmental groups, wanting to stop climate change. Every year a camp is set up on an open field, the field legally occupied. The camp itself runs for a week, with up to 2000 people attending, all being part running it. The camp is selfsustainable with compost loos and power from renewables and the field is returned to its owner in even better condition than before. The Climate Camp intends to highlight issues such as aviation emission and CO2 emissions from coal power plants. It is a forum for people to discuss, learn and to act on climate change and to put pressure on the UK government to change its policies on polluting industries to make them commit to much more green policies.
The Climate Camp at Kingsnorth was the third camp running, previous camps were by Heathrow, London and Drax coal power plant in Yorkshire. For more info:
